How to take cake and food orders on WhatsApp from one link

Home bakers and tiffin services lose time typing the same prices and options into WhatsApp again and again. A menu on your bio link fixes that: buyers pick items, and WhatsApp opens with the whole order typed out. You confirm and take payment in the chat.

Add a Catalog block

  1. Open Page and choose Catalog.
  2. Set the Button text, for example "Order from my menu", and your WhatsApp number for orders.
  3. Under How buyers get their order, choose Sort it out on WhatsApp, Delivery only, Pickup only or Delivery or pickup, buyer chooses.
  4. For delivery, add your Delivery areas and charges, up to 20 areas, each with its own charge. For pickup, fill in Pickup from (optional).
  5. Save the block, then choose Items on its row to add each item.

Each item has a Name, a Price in rupees, a Description (optional), up to 3 Photos and options. Choose Add an option, like size or flavour to add up to 3 option groups, each with its own price. Turn off In stock when you run out, and buyers see "Sold out".

Free allows 20 catalog items in total. Pro has no limit. Press Publish changes when the menu is ready.

What the buyer sends you

The buyer picks quantities, chooses delivery or pickup, adds a note and taps Send order on WhatsApp. WhatsApp opens with a message like this, ready to send to you:

  • Order TY-4K2P9A
  • 1 x Chocolate truffle cake, 1 kg (Eggless) = ₹1,200
  • 1 x Cupcakes, box of 6 = ₹450
  • Delivery to Anna Nagar: ₹60
  • Total: ₹1,710
  • Name: Priya
  • Note: Write Happy Birthday Arjun
  • Sent from Tapyoka

You reply in the chat to confirm the date, the delivery time and the payment.

Keep track in WhatsApp orders

Every time a buyer taps the button, the order is saved under WhatsApp orders in your dashboard. We cannot see if they pressed Send in WhatsApp, so treat these as orders to check, not confirmed orders.

  1. When you reply and agree, choose Confirm.
  2. To ask for payment, choose Send payment link. It writes a WhatsApp message with your UPI ID and the amount.
  3. When the money reaches you, choose Mark paid. Use Cancel for orders that did not go ahead.

Rules for cooked food

Cooked food, cakes and tiffin are ordered on WhatsApp on Tapyoka, not through the checkout. If you add a cake as a product with the category Cooked food and catering, its page shows an Order on WhatsApp button instead of a buy button. Packaged foods like pickles and snacks can use the normal checkout.

For food pages, the advance payment option in the catalog is turned off for now. Take payment on delivery or with your own UPI in the chat.

Selling food may need FSSAI registration. Check what applies to you before you take orders.
