How to build an email list from Instagram

Instagram can limit who sees your posts at any time. An email list or a WhatsApp list is the audience you keep. This guide shows how to collect contacts from your bio link, with consent, and what to do with them.

Give people a reason to sign up

"Join my newsletter" rarely works on its own. Offer something specific in return: a free 7 day meal plan, a checklist, early access to the next batch, or a waitlist for a product that is coming.

Add a Lead form

  1. Open Page and choose Lead form.
  2. Write a Form title that says what people get, such as "Get the free 7 day plan".
  3. Under Ask visitors for, choose email, phone number, or both.
  4. Set the Button text (optional), such as "Send it to me", and publish.

Visitors also give their name and must tick a consent box before sending. Each entry shows up under Leads with where it came from. Send the free item yourself, by email or WhatsApp, to each new lead.

Or lock the free item behind a subscribe step

On Pro you can do it in one step. Add the free file as a link, open Lock, and under Who can open this choose Subscribe to unlock. Pick Email, WhatsApp number or Email or WhatsApp, their choice. Visitors leave their details, tick the consent box and the link opens at once. Their details land in Leads.

Export or sync your list

  • Export CSV under Leads downloads every entry with name, email, phone, source and consent. If you use two step login, it asks for your code first.
  • On Pro, you can connect Mailchimp, Kit or Klaviyo in Settings, so new leads go straight to your mailing list.
  • Only message people who signed up, about what they signed up for, and remove anyone who asks.

See which post brought them

Add a tag to your link when you share it in different places, such as staging.tapyoka.com/yourname?src=reel or ?src=story. The tag is saved with each lead and shows in the Link tag column of the export. Where to share your link explains tags.
